Welcome to The Parrot's Perch
Website!
I'm Tina Usher, and all of my life I have been captivated by all types of birds. For many years, I bred and raised Green Wing Macaws, Moluccan, Umbrella and Medium Sulphur Crested (Elenora) Cockatoos and African Greys. I was a responsible and devoted breeder for 25 years and it is because of this great love that I have for my birds that I have had a change of heart about breeding. A few years ago, I become truly aware and deeply concerned about the overpopulation situation and the countless homeless birds in shelters. So, I felt it time that I begin a new journey. (Read my Heartfelt Thoughts article here).
Since the shelters are filled with Cockatoos and Macaws, The Parrot’s Perch has decided to no longer breed them. For now, during my transition I occasional raise a few Congo African Greys (greys seem to do well in captivity and very few are in shelters) while I pursue other avenues of income such as avian mobile grooming, boarding, behavioral consultations and training and behavior workshops.
NEW! Rescue Spotlight: The Parrot's Perch will highlight parrot rescues that have very specific special needs, due to a particular circumstance. Currently, Dee's Haven Parrot Rescue is helping Jessie, a Sulfur Crested Cockatoo, and needs help with his ongoing, expensive vet bills. Read full article here.
